“Healing is not about becoming someone new, but about returning to yourself with empowerment, alignment, and self-love.”

-Anissa

Anissa’s Specialties:

  • Latinx & BIPOC Mental Health: As a first-generation Puerto Rican woman, I can understand the unique experiences and challenges faced by people of color, including navigating cultural expectations, systemic barriers, and identity development. With eight years of experience serving Latinx and Black/African American communities in human services and research, I am especially attuned to the complexities that marginalized communities face. I recognize that mental health can be stigmatized in our communities, and I am proud to offer a safe, affirming space to explore your story, process emotions, and develop strategies that foster resilience, well-being, and self-understanding.

  • LGBTQIA+: As a queer therapist, I warmly welcome individuals across the diverse spectrum of sexual and gender identities and prioritize centering queer experiences in my work. Whether you’re exploring your identity (maybe even for the first time!), navigating the ups and downs of relationships, or carrying the weight of societal pressures, we can work together in a safe, empowering space. I would be honored to support you in embracing your authenticity, celebrating your resilience, and cultivating a sense of belonging within yourself.

  • Anxiety & Depression: Feeling stuck in cycles of rumination, negative self-talk, uncontrollable worry, and dread can make everyday life exhausting and overwhelming. Through trust and collaboration, we’ll carefully peel back the layers and explore the root causes of your anxiety and/or depression. Using a blend of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, we’ll identify and challenge the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to these patterns. Together, we’ll build coping skills, strengthen emotional resilience, and help you move toward a life that feels empowered and aligned with your true self.

  • Substance Use: Society often teaches us to view reliance on substances as a moral failure, yet that simply is not true. Substance use does not define who you are. For many, turning to alcohol or other substances begins as a way to cope or find protection, even if it later leads us away from our values. I take a compassionate, non-pathologizing, and evidence-informed approach, walking alongside individuals navigating substance use with empathy and respect. Together, we’ll gently explore underlying factors, identify triggers, and develop strategies that reduce harm and strengthen your coping toolbox, helping you reconnect with your values and move toward the life you want.

Do you ever feel like you’re carrying the weight of society's expectations while trying to figure out who you really are?

Maybe you’re a person of color, LGBTQIA+, first-gen, or curious about your intersecting identities, and the mix of anxiety, depression, life transitions, or chronic stress leaves you feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself. You might be questioning your identity, navigating relationships, using substances to cope, or simply longing for a space where all your layers are welcomed and celebrated.

I offer a warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where you can pause, breathe, and untangle life’s challenges while embracing your authentic self. Whether navigating sexuality, cultural stress, or healing past wounds, I’ll meet you exactly where you are and encourage you to love on yourself a little more, because you are worthy and truly deserve it!

I integrate an intersectional, social justice lens to gain a holistic understanding of who you are and your lived experiences. I use a blend of therapeutic modalities, including DBT, CBT, and motivational interviewing, to help you explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while strengthening your toolbox with positive coping skills. Through a trusting partnership, we'll focus on your needs to move from surviving to thriving!

You’ve made it this far, and the good news is you don’t have to do it alone anymore. You deserve to feel grounded, seen, and confident in who you are becoming. If you’re ready to take that step, I’d be honored to walk alongside you in your healing journey.
