Get Started

College and graduate students are under a lot of pressure. You have to do well in school, so you can get a good job one day. However, it’s more than that, you’re navigating a lot of life stuff for the first time like paying bills, choosing healthy foods, and other “adulting” stuff that can be stressful. Plus, learning is now about more than just passing tests. You need to actually learn these things because you’ll be applying them in the “real” world. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re certainly not alone, and the Fleurish Psychotherapy team is here for you. We offer therapy for college and graduate students in Decatur and surrounding university communities. Learn more on this page or give our team a call.

Reasons College & Graduate Students Visit a Therapist

These are meant to be the best years of your life. All your family members are telling you this, but right now, all you feel is stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. What’s so great about that? We get it. There are certainly many great things that happen during the college years and joyful experiences you’ll remember for the rest of your life, but when you’re in the middle of it, finding the joy can be difficult amid all the chaos and anxiety. The high stress levels associated with this transitional life phase can significantly impact emotional, mental, and physical health. Therapy can help you to process all of this, feel a little better, and enjoy these “best” years of your life.

Should I Consider Therapy?

During college and graduate school, you are preparing for your future. Everything you learn – whether it’s in a textbook or the real world – will prepare you for whatever comes next. Unfortunately, college and graduate school can be very stressful. Choosing to partner with a therapist during college and graduate school will help in a variety of ways, including:

  • Learning important skills to maintain emotional wellness – even when you’re under stress.

  • Talking through your future goals (personal and professional).

  • Creating plans for achieving your goals.

  • Increasing focus and organization to improve your studies.

  • Partnering with an objective person to learn the skills you need to navigate life transitions.

What Happens During Therapy?

What happens in your individual therapy session will depend on why you reach out to us. Your counselor will adjust their approach to address your unique situation. When you first visit, your therapist will talk to you about your counseling goals and how you can partner to achieve them. At each session, you’ll talk with the therapist about your experiences since your last visit, and you may receive some homework. Don’t worry it’s not graded! These tasks are all about taking what you’ve learned in our office out into your real life. It’s great to have a few minutes of peace to think and talk about your struggles, but we also want to help you find solutions and develop coping skills to navigate the difficult moments in your life when you leave therapy sessions.

We welcome students from Georgia Tech, Agnes Scott College, Emory University, Georgia State, Oglethorpe, Spelman, Morehouse, and more!
